Migration Matters Festival is around the corner
And there are plenty of cool stuff to see/hear/get involved with!
I recently wrote about how i feel in anticipation of opening Becoming British, a work-in-progress 6h durational performance. I am equal parts excited and terrified but i cannot wait to share this new development with you. It’s on Saturday 15th June from 6pm to midnight. Tickets give you access to come and go as many time as you like throughout the six hours. Think of it as exhibition meets performance arts meets broadcast. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Ticket in link below.
I am also taking part in Migration Matters Festival with the Blurring the Edges installation which is popping up at Soft Ground on The Moor from 15th June to 22nd. We are exhibiting with other artists and there is a free public launch on Monday 17th June. Hope you can join us!
I absolutely love this festival and i look forward to seeing as many things as possible this year. You will most definitely see me at the opening party and i very much look forward to checking out this durational installation as well as new work from my friend and colleague Victor Esses. Other stuff that look absolutely gorgeous but that i will be missing because i am going to a wedding anniversary are this food tour, Harem of no one or the Big Sing for Palestine. What about you? What are you most looking forward to?
Perhaps you are more of a film buff and are going to check out the excellent Sheffield Doc Fest? Or you are London based and are lucky you can enjoy some of LIFT’s exciting shows? It feels like festival season is strongly upon us and I’d love to know what you recommend…
Talking about films and documentaries, my dear friend Nikolay Nikolov was involved in making this documentary about Dutch artist Theo Jansen. It’s poetic, aery and a candid introspection into an artist’s life journey.
Or if you, like me, get excited by the intersections of tech and art check out this cool digitalisation of the WOW exhibition at ROAR in Rotherham. Can you find my #Evidence piece in it?
Last but not least, I have been enjoying this podcast about AI, available in 6 different languages. The English version is narrated by my dear friend Madeleina Kay (who is definitely not a robot :) )
In other news, it is election time both at EU level and in the UK. Here is information for EU citizens in the UK and who can or cannot vote in the upcoming EU Parliament elections happening 6-9 June (spoiler alert: i can’t! Thanks Bulgaria). And if you are eligible to vote in the UK general elections on 4th July, please make sure you are in the electoral register (you can check via your local authority here). If you are not, there is still time to register - deadline is June 18th. Please exercise your right to vote ESPECIALLY if you are under 35 and/or in education - lots of Tory sits are banking on young people abstaining and for students to be on holidays. Let’s show them how wrong there are. As i like to say: young people ain’t the future - they are very much the present!
Thank you for reading this month’s newsletter! Please do not hesitate to share if with others who might enjoy it. If there is anything you’d like me to talk about or highlight here, please keep in touch.
