Last week I attended the kick-off meeting for a (free) business boot camp I signed up for. The words “business” and “boot camp” came (unsurprisingly) with an avalanche of Slack messages full of emojis and exclamation marks.
I am questioning my impulsivity here (I signed up on the back of an Instagram ad, probably too late at night). I am now wondering if this is the right thing for me, at this stage. I was kinda looking forward to a quiet-er summer, frolicking in the mountains of Bulgaria, living the dream of being a nomad artist, notebook in hand soaking up the little pleasures of life and learning traditional Bulgarian embroidery alongside a baba somewhere remote where there isn’t any wifi…

Berlin Dispatches
In other news, I attended my first IETM plenary earlier this month. IETM is one of the largest cultural networks, representing member organisations and individuals from all around the world. I went to Berlin to mingle with hundreds of other theatre people and survived to tell the tale!
I’ve been experimenting with instagram reels by creating a “what do artists do” series of mini-vlogs. Making this happen was almost as exhausting as the actual networking I had to do.
This led me to think more deeply about this publication. I would love to know what you’d like to read more of here, at Untrained Effort.
I’ve got plenty of ideas but, as I share in the essay, many ideas sometimes results in not following through with any! My creative practice is all about connection and shared space so I would love to bring this spirit over to Substack a bit more. Can i please pick your brains if you have a sec…

I really enjoyed Culinary Class Wars and cannot wait for the new season. I learned so much about new ingredients and watching a cooking show where i was unable to immagine the flavour of all the dishes was a very interesting experience. I found that really enjoyable and a bit frustrating - in the best way possible - since i was craving things I don’t even know the taste of! How does that even work??
I also went to my first car boot sale as a seller and I loved it. I’ve sold a few old items on Facebook Market place too… i think selling is adictive! I might have to have a look into that…
Last but not least, been playing some role playing games lately. I am a total newbie and late to the party but i love it! Whoever said they were uncool was totally wrong and has never felt the ecstasy of rolling a “natural twenty” when on the bring of death… iykyk
